A little over a week ago, Ammon started asking "Why?" And I thought, "Oh, boy...here we go. Isn't it too early for this?" For some reason it just seems too soon to be entering the stage of endless "why" questions. Not that he's at the point of asking it all the time, but I know that's just around the corner. I think it feels too soon, because I'm just not ready to give up the sweet innocence of previous stages. I'm always so amazed at how quickly the time goes by when watching a little one grow up.
A week ago Monday (Feb 4th), Ammon woke up from his nap in a grumpy mood and he said emphatically, "I need Grandma!" He was still saying it 15 minutes later, except then it was "I need Grandma NOW." Since Jared was going to be working really late, I called my mom up and told her what Ammon was saying. She of course invited us right over. Ammon was happy he got to see his Grandma and Aunt Doreen. He did it again last Friday night, and Jared was working late so Ammon and I went back to Grandma's. That time he said he needed Aunt Doreen too.
On my birthday, my mom gave us her tickets to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and babysat so Jared and I could have a night out. It was a great concert (especially the piano concerto, which is always my favorite when they have one). When we came home, Ammon was still awake. While we were all sitting on the couch, Ammon winked at my mom and she was so surprised. He then winked with his other eye to Jared and I. How cool!
Jared's parents are serving a mission managing the Bishop's Storehouse. They live in Port Huron and drive to Farmington Hills at least 2 days a week. When we got several inches of snow in just a few hours Tuesday, we called Jared's parents and asked them if they wanted to spend the night at our house instead of driving all the way up to Port Huron (which in good weather and traffic takes 1.5 hours). So they spent the night on our lovely inflatable mattress (yes, I'm being sarcastic...it's not lovely, but it's better than the floor). We enjoyed having them here. Grandma Willmott was amazed as Ammon sat on her lap while she read an entire big book (meant for much older children). He loves reading! Grandpa went back to the storehouse the next morning, so Grandma spent the day with us. Ammon enjoyed spending time with his "Grandma far away" (that's how he's referring to her now). She was lucky enough to witness one of his really bad temper tantrums when he didn't want to come inside after playing in the snow. He was over tired, over hungry, and wasn't getting his way (the essential ingredients for a temper tantrum).
Below is a video of Jared, Ammon and Connor having fun in our basement after Jared came home from work on Tuesday, January 29th. Connor loves Tuesday nights because he stays late (until at least 6:30) so he often gets to play with Uncle Jared after work. I made the video a couple weeks ago, but didn't get around to putting it on the blog. You'll see that Ammon enjoys crashing (bikes, carts, cars, trucks, whatever he can into things, walls, people). Actually, both boys would crash a lot more if we let them. I don't know what it is about them wanting to crash. Must be a boy thing!! Anyway...enjoy the video. This one is mostly video clips with a few still shots at the end.
